What One Thing Do You Need To STOP Or START Doing?

If you’re truly honest with yourself, you know that there is something you ARE doing or something you AREN’T doing, that is somehow holding you back – in life and in business. Because your business is such a reflection of YOU, this one thing is not only affecting you personally but professionally as well. It could be as simple as “I need to exercise more often” or “I need to eat healthier” or something deeper, that you need to work on with a coach or a counsellor, like “I don’t like myself” or “I’m not happy in my marriage”. Other common “hold-backs” are fear of failing, lack of confidence, a lack of planning (THIS IS KEY ESPECIALLY IN BUSINESS), lack of execution, or lack of leadership ability. Let’s tackle the most common ones below:

If you are afraid of failing, and it’s holding you back, you need to PLAN more in your business. First, have a financial plan – with goals for revenue, expenses, and profit, and check your actual results against the plan often. You can do SO MUCH to improve your business when you compare your actual results to your plan! Second, GET A MENTOR OR COACH – someone else knows how to do this better than you do, so just ask for help! So many people have helped me and continue to help me as I get more and more successful. Most people LOVE being asked to help you! Plan to meet with a mentor or coach at least monthly to get advice, and make plans to achieve your goals.

If you are not executing, or find yourself procrastinating, I have two pieces of advice for you:

1. GET IT IN YOUR CALENDAR

2. GET REAL with the negative impact your lack of execution is having on your life, your family, and your business. Not hitting your goals is probably only the tip of the iceberg in terms of how much it’s affecting your life, in a negative way. Write this out or talk it out with someone you trust, and get really present to the negative impact of your procrastination. THEN GET IT IN YOUR CALENDAR AND GO DO IT 😀

If you’re lacking confidence, STOP IT. Seriously, I know this is one of the simplest and possibly most stupid sounding pieces of advice you’ve received from me, but someone very wise says it to me on occasion when I need to hear it and it really does work. STOP THINKING ABOUT WHATEVER IT IS THAT’S MAKING YOU FEEL A LACK OF CONFIDENCE, and START thinking about what you CAN do to get better, what you CAN do to improve, what solutions you CAN implement, and other positive things like what you already have to be grateful for, what you’ve accomplished that you’re proud of, and how happy you have been at a certain period in your life. You will instantly feel GOOD and more motivated.

Finally, if your team or customers are not responding well to you, you need to work on your leadership skills. Leadership is a muscle that needs to be constantly strengthened. You need to work on your emotional intelligence, your business acumen, your ability to motivate and inspire people, and your general personal development. If you aren’t working on your leadership, you are definitely holding yourself back!

So, what’s holding you back from achieving the incredible success you deserve? You need to ask yourself this question, sit with it, and let yourself honestly hear the answer. Then make an action plan to fix it.
