It’s not me, it’s you.

It’s not me, it’s you.

Something frustrating we see quite often is a business owner blaming their staff for poor results. Employees are human beings, with needs, desires, hopes, and dreams – just like us business owners! Many times, they are simply misunderstood and not properly motivated. This is not their problem, it’s ours!

As a leader, your goal should be to have the team WANT to follow you, WANT to help you achieve your goals and dreams, and WANT to come to work every day. Creating this ideal situation is not rocket science, but it does take some skill: some soft skill. Before you roll your eyes and groan (thinking “ugh that touchy feely stuff”) I am not talking about hugging and warm fuzzies. I AM talking about skills like communication, career pathing, engagement, connection, inspiration and leadership. You will not have a successful business, if you are not a great leader. You are the business.

So, the next time you feel like losing your temper on an employee, look at them and say to yourself, “it’s not you, it’s me”.
