I spoke with an amazing entrepreneur last week, and she was feeling stuck. She didn’t know how to get what she wanted. Here’s how we fixed that and how you too can achieve your goals:
1. Evaluate your goals.
Ask yourself why you want to achieve them. Every single goal you have written down is a way for you to FEEL GOOD. This is the only reason we want to achieve goals; we want to FEEL BETTER. So, beside each of your goals, write down the FEELING you were trying to get by achieving that goal. Chances are, most of your goals are your goals because you’re after 1-3 main feelings. This particular entrepreneur was mostly looking for a feeling of FULFILLMENT.
2. Show yourself that you can achieve the feeling you want quickly.
You can achieve that feeling much more quickly than you could by achieving that thing you have written down. For example, writing down what you’re grateful for, and what you’re proud of (things you have already accomplished) will make you feel very fulfilled. You could do this RIGHT NOW. It takes two minutes. When you fill up a page and look at all of the things you have in your life, and the things you’ve accomplished, you will feel amazing. You don’t need to achieve 29 goals this calendar year to get that feeling. It’s something that’s available to you INSTANTLY if you simply control your thoughts, and focus on things that make you feel FULFILLED.
3. Re-evaluate your goals.
Do you have a bunch of goals on your page that don’t motivate you, or aren’t necessary now that you have realized how powerful your mind is, and how quickly you can FEEL GOOD? Paring down your list to 3-5 powerful goals will be MUCH more effective than having a dozen or more.
4. Really let yourself understand the power of FEELING GOOD.
This is the most important step. If you can make yourself FEEL FULFILLED (or successful, happy, etc) you will be much more likely to ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS. When you are walking around in a positive, fulfilled, happy state, you attract more positive results and people into your life. Situations and opportunities that wouldn’t be available to someone who is depressed, unmotivated, or just feeling “blah.” For example, you walk into a luncheon or other event with a huge smile on your face, confidence in your step and optimism in your heart. You end up talking to another entrepreneur who just happens to have exactly what you’re looking for to move that special project forward. You hit it off, meet again later, and successfully achieve both of your goals together.
This would not have happened if you weren’t FEELING GOOD. Several studies show that happy, positive, confident people achieve goals much faster, because of the way they are feeling and therefore presenting to others.
Your goals will be achieved MUCH FASTER if you put yourself into that good feeling place, and THEN go about achieving them.
