When it Comes to Business, There Is No Magic Bullet

During the VERY first session with a business owner, I can usually see it happening on their face.

They want that magic bullet! They want the ONE or two things that will make such a powerful difference in their business, they won’t have to do any other work. I can see them mentally “filing” through the concepts and tips I’m giving them, putting most of them into the “maybe I’ll try that later” category or the “that sounds boring, and I’m not sure it would make that big of a difference for me” category.

The huge problems with this thinking are:

1. There really is no magic bullet, and
2. People tend to get discouraged and give up on improving their business or themselves.

The truth is, there are several thousands of small, seemingly inconsequential concepts, tools, and tips that you should be implementing in your business.

You don’t have to do them all at once, and you don’t even have to DO all of them ever, but the MORE YOU DO, the BETTER YOUR BUSINESS WILL BE.

I wish I could wave a magic wand at your business and pronounce it “FIXED” but the truth is, you need to build a budget, you need to track your finances every month, you need to have great job descriptions and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for your employees, you need to have a killer sales and marketing plan, you need to examine the processes in your business to create or improve them, AND YOU NEED TO DO THESE THINGS OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

And that is JUST THE BEGINNING!

I know there is a lot to do when running a business—I have been running, studying and/or coaching businesses for my entire adult life. But the truth is, YOU CAN DO IT, and you can enjoy running your business while you’re doing it.

How to Succeed in Business

1. Focus on ONE SMALL THING at a time.
2. Do it right.
3. Put it on your calendar.
4. Make sure to do it every month.
5. Then move on to the next small thing.

The best news? You can effectively delegate most of the small things, once you understand them! I’m sure if there were one great big amazing magic bullet that would decide the fate of your business in a snap, you wouldn’t want to trust it to someone else.
